OpenAI and the Walton Family Foundation are partnering to launch "AI Skills Jams," hands-on workshops through the OpenAI Academy aimed at giving K-12 educators practical training in using AI tools in the classroom, according to OpenAI's announcement.
The workshops are designed to move beyond theoretical discussion of AI and focus on concrete classroom uses, such as building lesson plans, differentiating instruction, and creating teaching materials. OpenAI says the sessions are meant to help teachers build confidence using tools like ChatGPT so they can spend less time on administrative work and more time engaging directly with students.
Under the partnership, OpenAI Academy is providing the curriculum and access to its AI tools, while the Walton Family Foundation is contributing funding and its network within K-12 school systems, per the announcement.
The initiative is part of a broader push by OpenAI to position its tools for use in education, as schools and districts continue to grapple with how to handle AI in instruction and assessment.
